Finding out about our history

SW Attwood’s and Country Sports

A long history based in Kent

The business was started as an agricultural farm in 1938 by Frank and Lillian Attwood. Just over 40 years later S W Attwood’s formed in 1981, following this our country sports division was established in 2007 due to Stephen Attwood’s love of the countryside and fishing.

Our first original fishing lake was established at Wallend based on our main farm ‘New Hook’ on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. This lake has been home to wild carp for centuries.

Slowly thanks to the success and popularity of Wallend, we then expanded to Major Lakes Bearstead, Maidstone. Here we have landscaped and completely revamped the lakes, this includes a full drain of the lake in 1998 allowing the lake to hit new depths of 14 foot.

We are pleased that the lakes have attracted members from all over Kent and the UK and has been kept up to high standards by our onsite water bailiffs Mark Whyatt, Colin Chapman and Steve Redding who have been at Major’s Lake for over 15 years.

Our rough shoot started as an avenue for the general public who normally get their license and insurance for local clay pigeon shooting and don’t get the opportunity of shooting game due to high costs or not owning land. Over the years we have developed into a club for members due to the high interest and many different
opportunities we offer.

The future is exciting for Country Sports and we look forward to you coming on the journey with us.
